His Secret
Chapter 7
The Martyrs under the Altar
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: [10] And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? [11] And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. - Revelation 6:9-11
The first four seals are the identifications of the Multitude, the Serpents, and the Scorpions on the spiritual layer. The fifth, sixth, and seventh seals would also have within them identifications. The martyrs in this passage that the souls under the altar are told to wait for would be the Multitude. When does the killing of the Multitude begin? It begins at the hands of the Serpents of the 6th trumpet at a designated time. However, we know that the 5th and 6th trumpets occur simultaneously.
They are told to rest yet for a little season until the Multitude is martyred. There is a time element within this phrase, “a little season.” There is another verse that is speaking about the killing of the Multitude that has a similar term in it. This is found in Revelation 12.
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. – Revelation 12:12
When does Satan get cast down to earth? He is cast down at the 5th trumpet. What does Satan do when he gets cast down to earth? He persecutes the woman (144,000) and realizes he can’t touch her, so he goes to make war with the remnant of her seed, the Multitude. He makes war with them, overcomes them in the short time that he has. If you look up the definitions for both little season and short time, you will find that they are virtually identical.
The souls under the altar are told to “rest yet a little season, until” the Multitude is killed. There is a point that the Multitude will begin to be killed. When is that time? It is at the hands of the Serpents of course, but is there anything more specific?
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. [14] And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the
Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. [15] And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
- Revelation 14:13-15
This is speaking about the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth. This word henceforth is signifying a marked point in time. The definition for the word henceforth means; from now. [1]
The verses following this are the reaping of the harvest for the harvest of the earth is ripe. The verses just before this passage are speaking about the mark of the beast and the worshiping of his image.
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, - Revelation 14:9
A few verses later, the saints are spoken about who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. - Revelation 14:12
The verses following these verses are stating “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth:” There is continuity within these passages. Also, in verse 14:9, we see the third angel announcing the mark of the beast. The angel previous to this one, the second, announces that “Babylon is fallen, is fallen.” When does Babylon fall? It falls at the 5th and 6th trumpets.
There is a sequence of events that occurs. Babylon falls, the mark of the beast is now in force, the saints are mentioned that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus and then “blessed are the dead.” This is the progression of the timing sequence of these events.
...and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. - Revelation 6:11
There is another time element in the above verse. The killing of the Multitude within the period of the little season is the fulfillment of scripture. There is another verse that uses a similiar phrase “should be fulfilled.”
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. - Luke 21:24
This is speaking about the Multitude being taken into captivity and dying by the sword of the 2nd horseman. Jerusalem (The Multitude) will be trodden under foot by the Gentiles (Scorpions and Serpents) until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. The Multitude is trodden underfoot by the Scorpions and the Serpents.
In the 5th seal the souls under the altar are told to rest yet a little season until the killing of the Multitude is fulfilled by the Gentiles who murder them until their time is fulfilled. Both the little season and the times of the Gentiles are a fulfillment of scripture and both are speaking about the killing of the Multitude.
The 5th seal is a statement that the Multitude will be killed as martyrs and will join the souls of the martyrs of times past for the witness of Jesus Christ. The white robes that the martyrs under the altar receive are their entrance into the Kingdom of God. The Multitude will wash their robes and make them white in the blood of the lamb and also enter into the kingdom of God.
Why does the Multitude have to die as martyrs? We will find that out in the next chapter.
