The Trumpet Judgements Unveiled
Chapter 9
The Fifth Trumpet
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. [2] And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. [3] And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the Scorpions of the earth have power. [4] And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. [5] And to them it was given that they
should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. [6] And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. [7] And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. [8] And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. [9] And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. [10] And they had tails like unto Scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. [11] And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. [12] One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter. - Revelation 9:1-12
What are these locusts with men’s faces, long hair, appearing as horses with tails of Scorpions? This is strange, very strange indeed. Or is there another interpretation? We will parse this out verse by verse.
At the 5th trumpet a star falls from heaven and to him is given a key to open the bottomless pit. The smoke comes out of the pit and darkens the sun and the air. Within these metaphors, the pieces that we have previously discussed will begin to come together.
This star that falls from heaven lines up with some verses in Revelation, chapter 12.
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, [8] And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. [9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [10] And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. [11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. [12] Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the I nhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. - Revelation 12:7-12
These verses tell us of a war between the dragon (Satan) and Satan’s angels, and Michael and his angels. Michael and his angels cast out Satan and his angels. This happens at the 5th trumpet. How do we know this?
Revelation 12:12 tells us that the devil is come down to earth from being cast out of heaven. He has great wrath or anger. And most important, timing is indicated. “Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea!” One woe means the 1st woe which is the 5th trumpet. The warning is given to the inhabiters of the earth and sea. Remember the four winds? The four winds were given to hurt the earth, the sea, and the trees. The earth, the sea, and the trees are all representative of the inhabiters of the earth.
There is another corresponding passage related to the casting down of Satan to earth.
And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. [10] And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. [11] Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. [12] And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. - Daniel 8:9-12
This little horn spoken about is a person that will have great power. The little horn is an extension of Satan himself; the little horn being the False Prophet. “And the place of his sanctuary was cast down” in Daniel 8:11 lines up with “…neither was their place found any more in heaven” in Revelation 12:8.
The host that is given him is the army of the Serpents, the stars, who makes the Multitude the daily sacrifice. The daily sacrifice that is taken away means they are killed. Remember, one shall be taken and one shall be left.
The little horn casts down of the host (celestial stars) to the ground. If you study out the word “host” you will find that this will reference the stars. The stars are actually divided into thirds also. Take a look at this next verse pertaining to three constellations that are quoted in scripture.
Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south. - Job 9:9
These are three constellations in scripture. When you study out the definitions for each of these constellations you will find that Arcturus is representative of the Serpents, Orion is representative of the Scorpions, and Pleiades is representative of the Multitude.
When a host is given to the False Prophet, he is given Arcturus, 1/3 of the stars. Orion is also commanded by him as the Scorpions that do his bidding in capturing of the Multitude. Pleiades is the 1/3 of the host that he stamps upon, this constellation being the Multitude.
The phrase stamped upon them means; trample under feet, tread down or tread upon. [1] Trodden under foot certainly comes to mind.
Notice that this little horn waxes great toward the south, the east, and the pleasant land, which can only be west. For we know where this little horn comes. He comes from the north. The connection to the north will be established in the 6th trumpet.
An interesting little note; the word little of the little horn means little. [2] Its root definition means; be brought low. [3] I’d say they are brought real low. The interesting part is that the one of the sub-definitions has within its definition a short time. [4] Seems we have read that before in Revelation 12:12 “...Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”
Being brought low is a direct reference to the city being low in a low place in Isaiah 32:19 “When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.” What city is this referencing? Jerusalem, Babylon. “Babylon is fallen, is fallen.” And it is low in a low place when the hail is coming down on the forest. Does this sound like the 1st trumpet to you?
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: [2] And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. [3] And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. [4] And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. [5] And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. - Revelation 12:1-5
This is a very interesting portion of scripture. These passages speak about the man child. The man child is the Multitude that the 144,000 births, so to speak. We have here a woman who is clothed with the sun, the moon is under her feet, and she has a crown of twelve stars. This is full of metaphors that we need to decipher.
The woman that is clothed with the sun (Righteousness) is Israel. More accurately, she is representative of the 144,000. She is clothed with the Sun of righteousness, that being Jesus Christ. [5] The crown of twelve stars represents the twelve tribes of Israel of which the 144,000 are sealed within. The moon under her feet is representative of the Multitude. Additionally, the moon under her feet represents a couple of things.
Firstly, the moon under her feet is very likely signifying that the moon (Multitude) is trodden under foot. Not by the 144,000, but by the apostate. This is a signature that resonates with the Multitude.
Secondly, the Multitude is the man child that is birthed by the 144,000 who represents spiritual Israel. Not intending to be too graphic here, the moon under her feet seems to be signifying the man child that has been birthed by the woman.
If you will notice in verse 4, the dragon stands before the woman to devour the man child as soon as the child is born. When is the man child born? Since the man child represents the Multitude, the man child will be born one at a time, as the Multitude comes into the truth. At the time that they come to the truth, Satan is there waiting for each one of them in the form of the Scorpions and the Serpents, to devour them.
When the man child is born (Each member of the Multitude) Satan is ready to devour them, and he does. But, look at what happens in verse 5. The man child, the Multitude is caught up to God and to his throne. That signifies that they are killed. Their spirit goes back to the one who created it. [6] After their death they are seen standing on a sea of glass before the throne. [7]
Verse four speaks about Satan taking his tail and drawing 1/3rd of the stars and casting them down to earth. That is the exact same thing that was spoken about in Daniel 8:10 “...and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground...”
We now seem to have a bit of a problem. In Revelation 12:4, it is stated that Satan draws 1/3rd of the stars. Why not all of them? Here again, we need to look at the words third part which we have previously covered. It is not 1/3rd of the stars that he casts down. It is at the third overthrow the stars are cast down. The sun (Scorpions) and the moon (Multitude) are also brought down. The sun (Scorpions) accompanies the stars (Serpents) in the devouring and the trampling under foot of the moon. (Multitude) This brings the verses into harmony.
Satan gets cast down and takes the stars with him. He goes after the woman (144,000) with as it were a flood. The earth helps the woman (144,000) and swallows up the flood. When Satan sees that he can’t touch the woman, (144,000) he becomes extremely angry. And the anger (Smoke) arises. He then goes after the remnant of her seed, which is the Multitude.
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. - Revelation 12:17
In the short time that he has, he goes in a great hurry to make war with the Multitude.
I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; - Daniel 7:21
The star that falls from heaven at the 5th trumpet is Satan that is cast down to earth and indwells the Scorpions and the Serpents. The (Scorpions) at the time the 5th trumpet sounds, fall. The Serpents are the stars, but more specifically, 1/3 of the stars, Arcturus. Remember that the stars fall from heaven. And we have a corresponding verse about Babylon. Both thirds of the apostate fall at that time.
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. - Revelation 18:2
At the 5th trumpet, the apostate is indwelt by wickedness and is fallen. “Is fallen” is repeated. The Scorpions and the Serpents are fallen together at the same time. The Scorpions fall at the 5th trumpet and “is fallen.” The Serpents fall at the 5th trumpet and “is fallen.” There is a connection with this to the smoke that rises out of the pit. After the pit is opened, smoke rises. This smoke that rises darkens the sun (Scorpions) and the air. What happened to the moon and stars being darkened?
When the smoke that rises out of the pit darkens the sun and the air, the moon and the stars would be darkened also. The sun is brighter than the moon and stars. (Physically speaking) Therefore if the air is darkened by the smoke, the moon and stars are darkened also. What is ment by darken?
When the 1st and 2nd third of the apostate fall, they are darkened. They become wicked. They no longer have any light in them at all. The Multitude is darkened by reason of the bitterness they endure and the blood that they shed. We can find out more information from the following verse.
For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. - Isaiah 9:18
This verse brings the understanding of the smoke and what it signifies. Wickedness burns as a fire. This is how the 1/3rd of the trees and all of the green grass is burnt up. It is the wickedness of the Scorpions and the Serpents working as unrighteous vessels that ends up stealing everything from the Multitude and murdering them.
“It shall devour the briers and thorns.” What will devour the briers and thorns? Wickedness will devour them. Who are the briers and the thorns? They are the 2/3rds of the apostate. The Lord uses the word “devour” to describe what happens to the Scorpions and the Serpents. This is a two-edged sword. Firstly, the 2/3rds of the apostate will be devoured by the Lord at the end of the Tribulation. The other side is that they are devoured by wickedness during the Tribulation.
You might be familiar with the following phrases. “His anger consumed him,” or “his jealousy consumed him.” In other words, he was devoured by anger or jealousy. But he was still walking and talking. Being devoured also means to be consumed or filled up, just as the 1st and 2nd third of the apostate are devoured by wickedness. It totally envelopes them and fills them up with wickedness.
The darkening of the sun, moon, and stars shows us that the Scorpions and Serpents are enveloped by wickedness. The Multitude is trodden down. (The Moon is darkened) They are the recipients of the wickedness by the Scorpions and Serpents feeding them gall and Wormwood. The Multitude feels bitterness and mourning for having gone away from the Lord placing them in this predicament of the sacrifice they now need to offer to receive eternal life.
The wickedness that kindles as a fire in the thickets of the forest is the burning up of the 1/3rd of the trees and all of the green grass of the 1st trumpet.
And then we come to “and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.”
The words mount up has an interesting definition; to coil upward, mount up. [8] A serpent coils upward, doesn’t it? And also in both the 5th and 6th trumpets you have people that are upon horses. They have mounted the horses they ride upon. They mounted the vehicle that gives them their power, Satan. Who are they? They are the thorns and the briers that are now full of wickedness. “They (the thorns and briers, the Scorpions and the Serpents) shall mount up (Rise) like the lifting up of smoke.”
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. - Revelation 9:2
The smoke arises out of the pit. This would be the wickedness that has now enveloped the Scorpions and the Serpents. The sun (Scorpions) and the moon (Multitude) and the stars (Serpents) are darkened by the smoke. Let’s read the next verse that follows Is. 9:18.
Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people hall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. - Isaiah 9:19
The land is darkened and the people (The Multitude) will be fuel for the fire. The word fuel means something eaten by fire. [9] “No man shall spare his brother” would be referring to the brothers and sisters that sat next to you in the corporate church every Sunday morning that will now turn on you. This is what is spoken about in the Judas cycle.
Judas was one of the disciples. He ate and drank and fellowshipped with the disciples and Jesus. Judas spared not his brother. When Satan entered into him, the betrayal process was underway.
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. - Matthew 10:21
Jesus spoke these words when He spoke about the conditions of the Tribulation. Exactly as it shall be when Satan enters (Devours) the thorns and briers. The betrayal and murder of the Multitude will begin. When the smoke arises out of the pit, the locusts come out of the smoke. These are the betrayers, the Judas’s.
Isn’t it interesting how the Lord uses the language of the Bible to describe the two-fold nature of many things in the Bible? There are reversals contained in these word/pictures. As the smoke (Wickedness) rises, they also fall. “Babylon is fallen, is fallen.”
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. - Revelation 9:2
The smoke of a great furnace has a connection to the time of the Exodus and is prophetically spoken about in the future tense.
But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. - Deuteronomy 4:20
Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. - Isaiah 48:10
The Lord speaks about taking the children of Egypt out of the iron furnace. When were they in an iron furnace? They were under the oppression and servitude of Egypt. The Lord freed them from their oppression. Since the Exodus was for our example, we can expect another replay of this episode.
It will come in the form of the Tribulation upon the Multitude. They will be thrown into a “furnace of affliction.” The smoke that rises as the smoke of a great furnace is the furnace of affliction that the Multitude will be thrown into by the Scorpions and the Serpents.
The Lord’s wrath and jealousy comes down upon the Multitude through Satan who adds wickedness to the mixture. When the Restrainer is completely removed Satan will in turn release the wickedness to completely consume (Devour) the thorns and briers. (Serpents and Scorpions) They then dish out their wickedness upon the Multitude in the form of gall and Wormwood. This is a bitter pill indeed.
Is there something else in scripture that would confirm this concept? The concept that the Scorpions and Serpents are somehow consumed by wickedness and become pure evil occurs right at the 5th trumpet. This makes sense, for if you look at the four trumpets, the identification of the three parties is already cast. The players begin fulfilling their roles at the 5th trumpet.
